During the convoy's deployment in Wloja from 28 November to 7 December 1941, Lt Wüsthoff led the convoy of Panje sleds six times from Wloja with ammunition to the front line at Padrila and Tobino. During these trips, he was exposed to enemy fire each time. Nevertheless, he always fulfilled his mission. By skilfully exploiting lulls in the firing and demonstrating exemplary personal courage, he was able to prevent major losses. During the continuous air raids on Vlora on 3 December, he particularly demonstrated his bravery and determination by voluntarily continuing to man one of the column's machine guns for active air defence.
