Biography

In 1942, Gert von Reitzenstein was a SS-Mann with the Leibstandarte in Berlin and quickly rose within the ranks of the Waffen-SS, reaching the rank of Sturmhauptführer.

Von Reitzenstein was wounded in August 1943 and returned to duty with 12. SS-Panzer-Division "Hitlerjugend" in October 1943 as O1 on Divisional Staff.

Von Reitzenstein was arrested by British troops in 1947 for his alleged role in the Chateau d'Audrieu massacre of June 1944. However, the British War Crimes Office was closed in 1948, and the case against von Reitzenstein and other alleged perpetrators of the massacre was dropped.

His brother Albin also served with the Waffen-SS.
