The following press release describes why Holst would be awarded the Knight’s Cross…

“Korvettenkapitän Waldemar Holst has proven to be an outstanding commander of a Räumbootsflottille. Especially noteworthy is his units’ destruction of 2 fast attack boats and 10 aircraft over the course of 34 enemy attacks as well as the recovery of 49 downed German pilots from the English Channel. It has furthermore cleared a total of 376 naval mines.”
