The following newspaper excerpt (dated 02.03.1943) describes why Reuter was awarded the Knight’s Cross…

“Oberleutnant Reuter outstandingly distinguished himself in the defensive battles south of Lake Ilmen. During this time the enemy managed to break into the German positions with strong forces, and from there they threatened to link up with a Soviet group that had been encircled behind the German front. In response Oberleutnant Reuter closed the gap in the main battle line following bitter combat, and he subsequently held the captured positions against all attacks despite being wounded himself.”
