Baur’s Knight’s Cross recommendation reads as follows…

“Major Baur managed to defeat an attack against Ostroshaoje on the 25. and 26.01.1942 through a combination of his skillful employment of the combat reserves as well as his own brave intervention in the foremost line. By doing so he prevented the much larger enemy force from breaking through his thin battle front. This in turn obviated the need for a withdrawal by the Korps, something which would have produced an intolerable situation for the Armee.”
