Here follows an abbreviated Knight’s Cross recommendation for Oberst Picker…
“The night of 07.08.1941, during which the Russian 12th Army searched for a way to break through to the East, was filled with crises. The most dangerous of these was on the right wing of Gruppe Picker, where the troops positioned on Hill 186 found themselves bypassed elements of the attacking Russian force, which pressed on towards the Regimental command post.
Oberst Picker sealed off this Russian break-in and in doing so brought the attack of the Russian 12th Army to a halt. As a result of his efforts, the encirclement ring around the enemy remained unbroken and the next day the trapped enemy troops could finally be wiped out.”
