07.11.1938: entered the Luftwaffe and began training with Fl.Ers.Abt. 23
04.-10.1939: attended LKS 2
1940: with Erg.KGr. 3 and IV./ KG 27 for training
03.10.1940: transferred to 1./ KGr. 606
09/10.08.1941: Leutnant, 1./ KGr. 606 severely WIA during an anti-shipping mission over the Channel - Ju 88 coded '7T+LH'
c.12.1941: rejoined 1./ KGr. 606 following hospitalization in Amsterdam
23.03.1942: Leutnant, 2./ Ku.Fl.Gr. 606 WIA - Ju88 A-4 coded '7T+KK' shot down over Malta and rescued from a raft - hospitalized
23.03.1942: awarded the Ehrenpokal
12.07.1942-03.1943: appointed Staka 2./ KGr. 606 (renamed 2./ KG 77 in early 09.42) 15.10.1942: Oberleutnant, awarded DKiG, 2./KGr. 606
01.03.1943: in I./ KG 77, promoted to Hauptmann
29.10.1943: Hauptmann and Staka 2./ KG 77, awarded the Ritterkreuz for sinking 30,000 GRT of shipping and damaging an aircraft carrier
