Awarded for his achievements over about 400 sorties flown as a Stuka pilot. They included 12 British tanks destroyed in just two days during the Sollum tank battle. In the Mediterranean he destroyed 2 supply ships (with 11000 GRT) and also damaged a destroyer near Tobruk with a direct hit on 14.09.1942. After transferring to the Eastern front, he participated in the sinking of 3 Soviet destroyers SW of the Crimea on 06.10.1943. Later, on 10.10.1943, he also destroyed a bridge over the Dnieper west of Krementchuk by a direct hit.
