Biography

KIC 2 November, 1944, after flying as an escort for an Ar 232 re-supplying German troops behind Russian lines. On the return, he crashed 3km from Gross Schiemanen airfield, E. Prussia. KIC were Maj Josef Belz, Cmdr; Ofw Herbert Althoff, R/O and Ofw Otto Röhrig, Mech. Injured, were Fw Alfred Schramm (or Schraum), Gnr and Fw Max Friedel, Passenger (H.D.Zemke). Added: Maj Belz, the Obs, was missing. Ofw Althoff and Ofw Röhrig were killed in the crash. In a German publication, the flight was described as being reconnaissance, therefore, the crew classifications should read KIA, MIA and WIA (D,Drury).
