Awarded for both his own mission count of 100 sorties as well as the successes of his Staffel during the Balkan campaign. He was able to disrupt the rail connection Greece-Yugoslavia by scoring direct hits on the railway installations at Kumarovo and Gradsko. His Staffel also had great success against shipping, sinking 43500 GRT and damaging a further 41500 GRT.
