The following newspaper article (dated 15.12.1942) describes why Sehringer received the Knight’s Cross…

“Knight’s Cross for 170 Long-Range Reconnaissance Sorties - Valuable Contributions in the Mediterranean Theatre:

The Führer has awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross to Oberleutnant Sehringer, pilot in a Fernaufklärerstaffel. Oberleutnant Sehringer has successfully carried out over 170 long-range reconnaissance sorties in all theatres of war. His reconnaissance efforts were particularly valuable in the North African and Mediterranean theatres, where the results he achieved brought about a clear and continuous picture of the enemy’s air and ground situation.”
