“During the Division’s attack on the 09.09.1941, Infanterie-Regiment 489 succeeded in advancing through to the southern edge of Krasnogwardeisk under the energetic leadership of its commander, Oberst Badinski. With this the first starting position for the attack on Krasnogwardeisk was attained. Despite lacking flank protection on the right the Regiment was able to hold off several strong enemy attacks (which were carried out with the support of 52 ton tanks) and completely hold onto its position.”
