During the middle of January 1943 Hauptmann Behr particularly distinguished himself. In this time he managed to fight a successful 2 day defensive battle along the bank of the Manytsch with only 10 Panzers at his disposal. He and his men prevented a Soviet corps and rifle division from crossing the Manytsch river and thereby penetrate into the left wing of the German forces that were still in combat on the river’s southern side. In the process he largely smashed the attacking Soviet forces and stopped them from capturing an important hill.

He would subsequently receive the Knight’s Cross for his actions here.
