During the time period 20.02.-03.03.1945 the 6. Volksgrenadier-Division was deployed on the western edge of Lauban. Here it managed to repeatedly seal off penetrations by much larger Soviet forces that included tanks. A Soviet breakthrough near Hennersdorf was subsequently prevented, and the heavy losses incurred forced the Soviets to call off their attacks. Generalmajor Brücker would later be awarded the Knight’s Cross for the achievements of his Division during this time.
