Awarded for his successes on the Eastern front. On the first day of Operation Barbarossa Emig sunk a 2300 GRT steamer in a dive-bombing attack. A few days later he seriously damaged a Soviet cruiser in a bombing attack. On the 28.06.1941 Emig and his crew managed to destroy the lock gate of the Stalin Canal at Lake Onega from an extremely low level, but were in turn brought down by the blast and killed.

Awarded posthumously.
