"Since being awarded the D.F.C., this officer has completed a farther 20
sorties. Throughout Sqn. Ldr. Lucas was in command of his flight, and, by his outstanding keenness for operations he did much to encourage and promote a fine fighting spirit. His courage and perseverance over heavily defended targets in order to secure photographs of his objectives have been most marked. His enthusiasm is such that he was genuinely disappointed when taken off operations."
