February 20th, 1944
Citation:
"For gallantry in action. On 28th January 1944, near Sessano, Italy, while his platoon was constructing wire barriers on the far side of the Canale Mussolini, they came under heavy enemy artillery fire. During the shelling a member of his platoon was seriously wounded. Leaving the comparative shelter of his canal bank, Lieutenant Grant, with utter disregard for his own safety, went to the assistance of the wounded man. In evacuating the man to a place of safety, he himself was seriously wounded by shell fragments. His cool and courageous action in the face of observed enemy fire was an inspiration to his men and reflects great credit upon himself and the military service."
