During the fighting east of Orel in spring 1943, Unteroffizier Hlauschka independently launched a counterattack with his squad that led to the recapture of a section of German frontline. This reconquered ground was then held against Soviet counterattacks, and this action ultimately resulted in the stabilization of the German sector in this area. Hlauschka would receive the Knight’s Cross for this action.
