Willem van Geelkerken was born on February 16th, 1912 as son to Willem van Geelkerken and Maria Johanna van Geelkerken-Lakerveld.
Van Geelkerken was, prior to his service in the Waffen-SS, 'Hopman der W.A.' In this function he acted as foreman of a companie of the Weerafdeling (defence department); the para-military organisation of the NSB.
