Awarded for his leadership of the II./Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 13 during the fighting for Hill 655 (15 km NE of Tuapse), which began on the 29.10.1942 after the Bataillon was deployed there. Hauptmann Roos particularly distinguished himself on the night of the 01./02.11.1942, when the left wing of his 6. Kompanie was overrun. Launching a counterattack with the rest of the Kompanie and the Zug from III. Bataillon, Roos was able to eject the Soviets out of the positions they had conquered.
