During the Battle of the Bulge, Rayfield Herrin's squad came upon a U.S. company pinned down by Germans on a ridge. While above the Germans Rayfield and 4 squad members lobbed hand grenades and small arms fire down on the Germans in caves and dug into the hill side. They killed a large number and the rest surrender, a total 200 Germans.
