"For gallantry in action in the vicinity of Colleville-sur-Mer, Normandy, France, 7 June 1944. When his company’s assault on a vital objective was checked by intense mortar and small-arms barrage, Private Warren fearlessly displaced his weapon forward to an exposed vantage point and delivered accurate automatic fire against the strongpoint. Despite the concentrated enemy fire returned upon his position, he courageously remained at his gun and inflicted severe causalities upon the hostile defenders, thereby enabling comrades to advance and seize the objective. Private Warren’s aggressive and gallant actions exemplify the fighting spirit of the American soldier."
