"For gallantry in action in the vicinity of Hartha Germany on 24 April 1945. When his half-track was hit by a bazooka causing siz casualties, he courageously and cooly evacuated the wounded to an adjacent building. When bazooka, machine gun and rifle fire was received in the house, he led and carried the wounded up to the roof from where they were lowered to the ground. Then forming a covering guard he led the wounded to medical aid. He thus saved the lives of at least two wounded comrades, and killed three enemy endeavoring to cause their surrender. His gallantry is in keeping with the finest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself. Entered the military service from Indiana."
