"On I7th June, 1940, whilst leading a section on patrol over Saint Nazaire, to cover the embarkation of the British Expeditionary Force, Sergeant Berry attacked and shot down an enemy bomber about to make an attack on one of the troopships. Sergeant Berry has on many occasions led his section, and often his flight, in combat against the enemy with success. He has displayed exceptional qualities as a leader,"
