Lt. Colonel Robert H. Douglas, 0129212, Commanding Officer, 1st Battalion, 394th Infantry, was awarded the Silver Star Medal for gallantry in action during the period 16-17 December 1944. Colonel Douglas fought his battalion in a commendable manner during the above period of time. He exposed himself to enemy fire on numerous occasions to lead his battalion. He personally contacted commanders of isolated units to insure their withdrawal to prevent annihilation.
