On 24 March 1945, 1 Canadian Parachute Bn dropped in an area North of the Diersfordter Wald in Germany, The dropping zone was covered with fierce fire from mortars light automatics and rifles at two corners of the area. In spite of the intense fire, Pte Quigley gathered many men round him on the DZ who were uncertain of the direction of the RV, and by his dash and contempt for the hail of bullets inspired them to follow him. The platoon of which Pte Quigley was a member immediately attacked the Company objective and he showed great dash and contempt for danger. After the objective was captured, an enemy MG post opened fire, and Pte Quigley organized a Bren gun and firing as he ran, dashed into the midst of the post and destroyed a whole enemy section. His courage and intense determination to destroy the enemy inspired his platoon and company.
