On the 28 March 1945 at Emmerich, Germany, Lance Corporal Kellerman, a Regimental signaler, attached to "A" Company, displayed great personal courage and a devotion to duty which was inspiring to all ranks.
1st Battalion The Canadian Scottish Regiment was given the task of breaking through the enemy defense on the outskirts of the town in order that the town could be cleared of enemy troops. "A" Company was assigned the forward position in the initial stages of the attack. Immediately the attack had commenced, "A" Company was subjected to heavy fire from [ ... ] concealed mortars. Lance Corporal Kellerman, carrying his wireless set, worked his way into a position from which he could see the enemy mortars. Whilst the company commander was engaged reorganizing his men, this aggressive soldier amidst the storm of mortar fire, and despite the efforts of German snipers to knock him out, personally directed through the medium of his wireless set the counter mortar fire onto the enemy positions. His complete disregard for his own safety and his resourceful initiative were undoubtedly instrumental in disrupting the enemy's defensive plan thus making possible the company's advance to the final objective.
Lance Corporal Kellerman's bravery and offensive zeal were an inspiration to all ranks of his Company and contributed in no small measure to the successful conclusion of the battalion's attack on this day.
