David Leo Bellefontaine was born on October 1, 1917 and passed away on December 5, 1957. He was born and died in Sydney, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada. He was the second born of ten children, two of whom did not survive. He had two brothers who served during WWII, one of whom was in the Merchant Navy and one sister who served with the Air Force.
