Recommendation:
Shortly after landing and during the assault on the beach defences in St Aubin-sur-Mer on 6 June 1944, several enemy strong points were holding up the advance of our infantry. Sgt Walterson, a tank crew commander, observed the strong point in particular and on his own initiative and in face of heavy fire, directed his troop onto it. This action resulted in the silencing of a 75 mm gun which was causing great trouble; some thirty of the enemy were killed and upwards of one hundred others surrendered. It was owing to his coolness, courage and skill that the strong point was knocked out thus enabling our infantry to gain their immediate objective. His actions are worthy of highest commendation.
