Recommendation:
On D-Day at approximately 0830 hours, while making the run-in to Mike Red Beach from the HMCS Prince Henry, in LCA “5” (1103), the coxswain was killed outright.
G-47155 Corporal Charles Franklin Mowatt took over the controls and landed the LCA while under severe mortar and machine-gun fire. Then on landing, he organized his sub-section of eight men and immediately attended casualties on the beach while under fire until he finally made contact with his officer, Captain A.B. Murphy. He continued his duties on the beach until the complete section left and also carried on throughout the whole day of the action with the 1st Battalion The Canadian Scottish Regiment.
