"Sjt. Sullan was No.1 of a gun detachment of 2 A/L A/TK Battery RA. On 14 September 1944 his gun was in action WEST of ARNHEM when attacked by tanks and infantry. During the early stages of the battle his gun was put out of action by a direct hit. Notwithstanding this Sjt Gullan immediately manned another gun, whose crew had been killed and wounded, and he began to engage two Mk.IV tanks approaching his position. Leading his detachment with great courage and coolness, he forced the tanks to withdraw immediately. The enemy infantry followed them and the attack failed. Throughout the battle Sjt Gullan appeared utterly regardless of his own life and it was his consistent and outstanding gallantry that saved a critical situation."
