Rank:
Lance-Corporal
Unit:
16th Field Company, 3rd Canadian Infantry Division, Canadian Army
Recommendation:
Lance-Corporal Bartolacci, H.J., landed on D Day with the assaulting infantry. In Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer the enemy had placed a steel rail across the road, thus blocking it for our tanks. Although this obstacle was fully covered by enemy small arms fire, Lance-Corporal Bartolacci dashed forward, under covering fire from our own troops, placed a charge and destroyed the obstacle. This act of gallantry enabled the tanks to move forward and assist the infantry in their advance.
