Staff Sergeant Richard H. Potter, 11065564, (then Sergeant), Field Artillery Reconnaissance Company, 774th Tank Destroyer Battalion, United States Army, for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States in Germany. On 2 March 1945 near Ober-Zerf, Germany, Sergeant Potter led his reconnaissance platoon within one hundred yards of an enemy strong point in an effort to neutralize the position. Braving heavy fire, he assumed an exposed position, personally manned a bazooka and with accurate fire destroyed the emplacement. His bold action permitted the advance to continue. Sergeant Potter’s courageous actions and unswerving devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the Armed Forces. Entered the military service from Stanford, Connecticut.
