Citation:
"For gallantry in action on January 19, 1943, at Guadalcanal. By the use of dynamite, Sergeant Pisney personally destroyed three enemy machine gun positions, aided by persistent rifle fire by his squad. He stealthily approached to a point where he could hurl the dynamite into the pill-boxes. By eliminating this resistance a rifle platoon was able to advance and obtain its objective.
