Kenneth C. Lachmann, 36877809, Private First Class, Infantry, United States Army. For meritorious service in connection with military operations against the enemy at Leyte, Philippine Islands, from 20 February to 5 March 1945. During this period, Private Lachmann performed his duties as platoon runner in an outstanding manner, exposing himself on numerous occasions to all types of enemy fire in order to accomplish his mission. When his platoon was attacking heavily fortified positions on Hill 2, he advanced in the face of heavy automatic fire, laying wire for communications, but was wounded and had to be evacuated. Private Lachmann’s devotion to duty, aggressiveness, and coolness in the face of the enemy were inspiring to his fellow comrades.
