Citation:
"Private Burrows has served as a stretcher bearer with The Royal Hamilton Light Infantry since the declaration of war in September 1939, and has at all times rendered efficient, loyal and devoted service to his unit.
Throughout the Normandy campaign, he has driven a jeep in the forward areas, evacuating casualties from the battlefield to medical installations, and has consistently shown untiring determination, an unparalleled capacity for long hours of sustained effort and the utmost courage and gallantry under fire.
During the attack on Verrieres on 25 July 1944, Private Burrows continued day and night to rescue his wounded comrades, refusing to take cover when working in exposed positions under heavy machine gun fire and small arms fire.
On one occasion, his vehicle was demolished by shell fire; he immediately obtained another car and continued his work without interruption.
This soldier is an outstanding example of courage and the will to win. His conspicuous bravery, clear-headedness under fire and physical staying power are an example and an inspiration to all ranks."
