"Flying Officer Cole has completed numerous sorties, including five against Berlin and four against Hamburg. As captain of aircraft his energy, skill and determination have been outstanding. He has always set a fine example of keenness and cheerful confidence to his crew. On one occasion during an attack on Berlin, this officer's aircraft was engaged by an enemy fighter but with coolness and skilful airmanship he enabled his gunner to shoot it down."
