Period:
Second World War (1939-1945)
Rank:
Obergefreiter (Corporal)
Unit:
Richtschütze 14. / Grenadier-Regiment 952
Awarded on:
April 16th, 1944
On the 21.03.1944 the Soviets launched a major attack on the sector of Grenadier-Regiment 952, with the support of artillery and tanks. During the initial barrage a number of the men crewing the Pak gun of Obergefreiter Seeber, including the gun commander, were killed or wounded. Nevertheless Seeber stuck to his gun and used it to destroy 9 Soviet tanks, and damaged even more. He was badly wounded in the course of the fighting and had to be evacuated.

Nevertheless, by these actions he was able to prevent an Soviet breakthrough which, if successful, would have resulted in the encirclement of the Regiment. And so in recognition of this very important feat of arms, Seeber would be decorated with both classes of Iron Cross, and eventually the Knight's Cross.
Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes
