Second World War (1939-1945)
Obergefreiter (Corporal)
Richtschütze 14. / Grenadier-Regiment 952
Awarded on:
April 16th, 1944
On 21.03.1944 the Soviets launched a major attack on the sector of Grenadier-Regiment 952, supported by artillery and tanks. During the initial barrage a number of the men crewing the gun of Obergefreiter Seeber, including the gun commander, were killed or wounded. Nevertheless Seeber stuck to his gun and with it was able to destroy 9 enemy tanks, and damaged even more. He was badly wounded in the course of the fighting and had to be evacuated.

Nevertheless, by these actions he was able to prevent an enemy breakthrough which, if successful, would have resulted in the encirclement of the regiment. And so in recognition of this very important feat of arms Seeber would be decorated with both classes of Iron Cross, and eventually the Knight's Cross.
