Biography

On the General Cemetery Groenendaal is the Dutch war grave of P.L. Kerssens. Piet Kerssens perished during the liberation of 's-Hertogenbosch. Piet was shot by a German sniper on the Wilhelmina bridge in Den Bosch, while he was walking with a Red Cross flag in his hand towards a wounded British soldier that he wanted to help. Piet was seriously injured and was transported to a field hospital in Rosmalen. Piet died the following day in the field hospital.
