Full name Jonkheer Reyndert Willem Carel Godart Adriaan Wittert van Hoogland. René Wittert van Hoogland got his military pilot licence in 1929.
He achieved a high flying record for the Netherlands on January 18th, 1935 with a Fokker D.XVII biplane.

Besides his WW2 related decorations, Jonkheer Wittert van Hoogland also received the Officier in de Orde van Orankje Nassau (with swords), the Ereteken voor Orde en Vrede, the Officierskruis (with clasp XXXV), the Kruis van Verdienste of the Dutch Red Cross, the Vaardigheidsmedaille of the Dutch Olympic Comittee, the Gouden Medaille of the Koninklijke Nederlandse Vereniging voor Luchtvaart (KNVvLg) and the Knights Cross of the Military Order of Malta.
