“Hauptmann Walter Wienke… and his Bataillon had a decision share in the encirclement and destruction of strong enemy forces along the Volkhov. Here he and his brave infantrymen were employed in the thick of combat along our blocking position, however every Bolshevik breakout attempt launched against them failed in the face of their commander’s prudent leadership and personal boldness.”
