Biography

Johannes van Kempen was executed on February 5th, 1945, in front of Barchamn Wuytierslaan 40-42, Amersfoort, along with 17 prisoners from Camp Amersfoort and two incidental passers-by in retaliation for the attack on the main signalpost on the railwayyard of Amersfoort on February 3rd, 1945. During this engagement between the Knokploeg and the Feldgendarmerie, three members of the latter were killed.
Johannes van Kempen was initially buried at Rusthof Cemetery in Leusden but was reburied later on the Memorial Cemetery in Loenen.
