In the period from 15.-17.06.1941, during the tank battle at Sollum, Schwabach's FlaK battery accounted for 34 enemy tanks destroyed. This can be largely credited to its commanders' drive and aggression, wherein he would even advance with his battery ahead of friendly armoured forces in order to seek out and destroy the enemy. In this way his troops were even able to capture a British 15-cm howitzer battery. For his successes in this battle Schwabach would be awarded the Knight's Cross.
