On the 15.07.1943 the Soviets launched an attack against the frontline of the 10. Pz.Gren.Div., assaulting it at 04:15 in the aftermath of a heavy artillery barrage. However the Germans had been alerted to this move by a deserter who had crossed over the night before, and they were ready to meet the Soviets.

All attacks were repulsed by the Division. The divisional Panzerjäger-Abteilung alone destroyed 15 Soviet tanks within 3 hours. Unteroffizier Schuller, a member of this Abteilung, personally destroyed 7 tanks of this total with his Pak. He would later be awarded the Knight’s Cross to the Iron Cross for this outstanding feat-of-arms.
