On the 06.10.1941, south of Mzensk, the firing positions of the II./Panzer-Artillerie-Regiment came under attack from a Soviet armour unit. Several T-34s were shot up and the battle resolved in the Germans’ favour. For his leadership during this engagement Major Laukat would be decorated with the Knight’s Cross.
