"Pte. Dale in the Company of Pte. Horn performed the No's 1 and 2 of the 2" Mortar; they succeeded in getting their Mortar by a dangerous crawl into a fold in the ground close up to the Heavy Battery. After getting the range the third salvo from the 2" Mortar scored a direct hit on the cordite fuses behind the 6" Gun. The whole of the ammunition went up with a roar, burning many of the gun crews, and completely silencing 5 of the enemy Guns which never again got into action."
