Roy W. Drake, Jr., 31147566, Corporal, 760th Tank Battalion. For gallantry in action in a tank battle on 30 January 1944, near Cassino, Italy. A direct hit penetrated the tank of which Corporal Drake was gunner, wounding another member of the crew and setting the tank afire. While assisting the wounded man to leave the burning tank, Corporal Drake was himself wounded by fire from a machine gun 75 yards distant. Corporal Drake’s unhesitating risk of his own life in helping his injured comrade is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service. Home address: Caribou, Massachusetts.
