Geschützführer, 1. Kompanie, Panzerjäger-Abteilung 53, 5. Panzer-Division, Heer
Awarded on:
September 2nd, 1942
Awarded for his actions during the first battle of Sytschevka (south of Rzhev) in summer 1942. The 5. Panzer-Division had received the mission to defend the Chlepen bridgehead against attacks from the northwest. Thus Obergefreite Wyczisk and his Pak gun crew stood in position by the Wasusa river when the Soviets launched a combined tank/infantry assault at 0300 on 07.08.1942.

During this attack the Pak 38 of Obergefreite Wyczisk destroyed six Soviet tanks, and the remainder were dealt with by other local units. The frontline held, although Wyczisk and his entire gun crew were wounded in the process. For his contributions to the defense on this day Wyczisk received the Iron Cross 1st Class, and later the Knight's Cross.
