On the 15.02.1945 the Soviets attacked Sagan-on-the-Bober with strong forces. These could not be held off, and in anticipation of a German withdrawal over the Bober river the Kaiser-Wilhelm bridge had been primed for demolition. After the Soviets had made it to within 20 meters of the bridge, the demolition team responsible for the bridge became casualties before they completed their mission. In this critical situation Gefreiter Rademann jumped from cover on his own initiative, and while avoiding the hailstorm of opposing fire he managed to blow the bridge at the last minute.

In doing so he prevented the swift continuation of the Soviet advance in the Neisse sector, and permitted a new frontline to be built here. He was presented with the Knight’s Cross for his bravery and devotion to duty here.
