Action:
During the fighting in the central sector of the Eastern front, Reineking committed a deed of decisive battlefield importance. Recognizing the battle situation correctly, he defended an important hill position all on his own to the last round against an attack by strong enemy infantry and tank forces. By this action he enabled the friendly German infantry to conduct a smooth withdrawal. For his heroic actions Reineking would receive the Knight’s Cross.
